Rubina’s Vegan Cupcakes – a Smash Hit!!

When we were making wedding decisions – one of the most obvious was that the food was going to be vegan. Then came finding a vegan baker in the Ann Arbor region. Cakes by Rubina kept coming up as one of the top choices, so we ordered a vegan cupcake sampler (ever try eating 6 cupcakes in an hour – it’s more difficult than you’d think).

We went with green tea, raspberry, and peanut butter. And man, oh man, were these cupcakes a hit. For a little perspective, we had 20 people not show the day of taking us from 70 to 50 people. We had 100 cupcakes and every single one was eaten!! In fact, we definitely saw people with 2 (and even 3) cupcakes on their dessert plate. For us that speaks for itself and for many of our non-vegan friends it was an introduction into how lovely vegan baked goods can be.

Thanks Rubina for a lovely job!

Magbooth is awesome!

One of the few things we managed to keep a secret about our big day was our photobooth. I’m so glad we did because it was one of the biggest hits of the night!

I saw a blog post earlier this year about Magbooth – the photos were amazing, the website made my drool, and their awesome customer service sealed the deal. Seriously, these guys made it simple to plan across an International border, drove four hours to attend our event, brought amazing props, didn’t think my crazy friends were crazy, and were just generally awesome. I am, however, a little sad that the plan for a chicken in the photobooth fell through…

For the most important part – here is the gallery of photos from the wedding. If you love your photo, lost the original, or want MOAR you can order a copy (or two or three). Or just browse to your little heart’s content.

You get the drift! Go forth and search.

Up shit creek…

We thankfully, however, have paddles. Our roommate made us open our gift yesterday because she couldn’t contain her excitement any longer. She had these lovely local (and green!) paddles made for us. They even came with our names and wedding date engraved on them!!

Right now they are tucked in the corner of our living room. Jason had the awesome idea of hanging them on the wall above one of our sets of french doors so that they can be both stored safely and displayed at the same time.

It really just means that project find a cottage to call our own will begin…

Centre Piece Assembly

One of the last big things on my to do list (at least when it comes to decorations) is to assemble the flowers for the centre pieces. I got home last night and started tackling them. Between an ever shrinking guest list (life happens!) and some over enthusiastic crafting, we ended up with lots of lots of flowers.

This photo is after I had tucked away 12 mason jars full (ready for transport!) and doesn’t include several jars stuffed full that need to be allocated out.

I love how trust and faith in an idea, end up coming together into awesome execution.

Directions

There are a couple of key addresses that you’ll need to write down/print off/save in your phone/program into your gps/your organizational method of choice.

First up – the Holiday Inn (assuming of course that you booked into the HI. If not, you’re on your own!). The address is: 3155 Boardwalk Drive, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48109 and their phone number is: 734-213-1900.

Next up – Cobblestone Barn (ceremony & reception location). The address is: 2781 Packard Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48108. To get to the Barn, take the larger of the two roads in the green park to access the parking lot, which is behind the barn.

It’s approximately a 10 minute drive from the Holiday Inn to Cobblestone. Given that the ceremony starts at 5:30, you should arrive around 5pm – so you’re likely looking at leaving the hotel around 4:45.

Directions from the Holiday Inn to Cobblestone can be found below.

10 days and counting!

All the work leading up to the wedding is starting to look like this…

As I sort and organize and write instructions out. All that riot of colour is tucked away neatly into bags.

I was feeling a little overwhelmed over the weekend/last night, so instead of working on my to do list I cracked out a crochet afghan I’d started over the winter. I began to assemble it. Once again, riots of colour. I guess I felt so bummed out without my colourful bunting to cheer me up that I need to inject some joy into my life.

The lovely thing about being organized and on top of our (sometimes giant) to do list is that I can take a day or two off to relax without feeling guilty. I’m also lovely this project hard enough right now that it may end up becoming my car project over the next few weeks.
